The Suisun City Historic Waterfront Business Improvement District is proud to bring you the premier issue of "Welcome to the Waterfront," the new visitor newsletter of the Waterfront District in Suisun City. This newsletter will inform you about events, activities, local news and special offers from Waterfront District merchants.

The timing for the premier issue could not be better. Spring is the start of the event season and 2007 is going to be a fun and active year. The Friday Night Concerts are back beginning on July 13th. A series of five special themed Open Market events will kick off on May 5th with a Cinco De Mayo Festival that includes the Opening Day Boat Parade, entertainment and a free movie at Sunset in Harbor Plaza.

Main St Bar & Grill

Two new Waterfront District restaurants will be opening soon. The Joy of Eating Cafe, located at 535 Solano Street adjacent to Harbor Plaza, will serve outstanding breakfasts and lunches featuring fresh baked bread. The Joy of Eating began in Vallejo, has a loyal following and is famous for its homemade bread.

The Main Street Bar & Grill will serve California French cuisine in an upscale environment. The restaurant is owned by the same family that operates the Old Post Office in Downtown Vacaville. This fine dining eatery is located at 627 Main Street.

Tidy Tails recently opened at 305 Spring Street and has already established itself as the area's best place for Pet Grooming. Tidy Tails offers full service grooming, self-bathing, dog training and pet supplies. Owner Ralph Chapman has created a pet & owner friendly environment that focuses on customer service and high quality grooming.

Tasuke Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar is now open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:00am to 2:30pm.


California Sunset Here to Stay
Calif Sunset

The Suisun City Council recently approved a 3-year contract for Captain Dan Theimann, and his riverboat the California Sunset, to offer cruises from the public dock adjacent to Harbor Plaza.

The California Sunset has been a popular Waterfront District attraction for the past year allowing visitors an opportunity to experience the beauty of our marsh the largest contiguous brackish water marsh remaining on the west coast of North America. The California Sunset offers a glimpse of local nature that can only be seen by boat.

You may have followed the recent stories in the local news about the Snowy Owl. Native to the Artic, the owl showed up in the area earlier this year. Birders from all over California flocked to the marina to board the California Sunset for a rare sighting of this impressive creature.

If you have driven down Main Street lately you have probably noticed the large construction fence on the empty lot at the corner of Main & Solano streets across from Harbor Plaza. It won't be an empty lot much longer!

This site is the future home of Harbor Square, a 38,500 square foot mixed use center with restaurant and retail on the bottom floor and office space above. The building will wrap around a large outdoor public courtyard that is sure to become a favorite gathering place for locals and visitors alike. An oversized fireplace is planned for the courtyard to extend the usable season and add ambience.


2007 Waterfront District Events

The 2007 Event Schedule has been finalized and following is a taste of what to expect this season on the Suisun City Waterfront.

Open Market The Open Market, held on the 1st Saturday of the Month, begins on May 5th with a Cinco De Mayo Festival. The event will include the Opening Day Boat Parade, music in Harbor Plaza, food, vendors and a free movie in the plaza. Other Open Market themes include a Health Fair, Ice Cream Social, a Brewfest and the increasingly popular Waterfront Festival featuring Fine Art, Wine Tasting and delicious Chocolate treats.

23rd Annual Biggest Little Car Show Hosted by the Golden Hills Mustang Club, this well attended show is open to Mustangs and all other Ford models.

On July 7th, Saturday Night at the Movies a weekly series of outdoor family movies in Harbor Plaza, kicks off with a showing of the Academy Award nominated Monster House.

Seven free Friday Night on The Waterfront concerts begins on July 13th with music from local Salsa favorite Sapo Guapo.
