Homemade, Comfort Food at the Joy of Eating Cafe

San Francisco Examiner - June 17, 2009

In the mood for homemade, comfort food, we stopped at the Joy of Eating Café in Suisun. This establishment is well worth the drive because of their service and food.

The Sunrise Sandwich and "Works" Burger were ordered. The Sunrise Sandwich is my all time favorite sandwich, which is why it deserves to be mentioned.

The bread is absolutely delicious; it’s soft and sweet, and nothing like I’ve ever tasted before. I cannot say enough about this bread, and the rest of the sandwich was topnotch too. The other components of the sandwich include avocado, bacon, Swiss cheese, mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato. Again, the sandwich was superb.

The "Works" Burger was also very good. However, the Sunrise Sandwich wins hands down. They use a roll for their burger and it comes with grilled onions and mushrooms. While the cheese is a personal choice between American, Swiss, Cheddar, Pepper Jack, and there’s one or two more alternatives. Moreover, the cheddar was very good on the burger.  The burger also comes with a significant helping of fries, and they were delicious.

Overall, the food and service is well worth the drive.
