Shore Fest Kicks Off Suisun City Summer

Daily Republic - June 13, 2010

Tanna Roan, a Suisun City resident, sat on a bench in Harbor Plaza Saturday afternoon, enjoying the sunny day and the sounds of Garratt Wilkin & the Parrotheads.

Coming down to the waterfront is something she and Dale Engelhart do often. Today they had the added benefit being there during Shore Fest.

“We come down here a lot in summer,” Engelhart said.

Shore Fest kicked off Suisun City's summer event season Saturday with music, food and fun.

For the young, and young at heart, rides, including a giant slide, a Ferris wheel and bounce houses were set up at Sheldon Plaza.

At Harbor Plaza, music kept visitors tapping toes and dancing all day. It opened with the group Point of No Return, comprised of four Rodriguez High students, and continued with The Honey Bee Trio.

People filled the benches, spread blankets, set out chairs on the grass, or stood and chatted with friends while listening to the “Parrotheads,” a Jimmy Buffet cover band.

Suisun City residents Ken and Pat Holzwarth are regulars at the waterfront.

“We usually come down whenever they've got something going on here,” Ken Holzwarth said.

They bring a chair, sit down and enjoy the day, which includes listening to the music and people watching, he said.

The day also included a bike safety rodeo in the afternoon and a Karaoke fundraiser in the evening.
